Devotional tour a giant success for Ohio fans

In conjunction with their new album, Songs of Faith And Devotion, Depeche Mode embarked on an 18 month Devotional world tour that began in Zurich, Switzerland on May 21, playing to sold-out crowds in every market.
Not since the World Violation tour in 1990 has the band embarked on this journey. The Ohio location for this event was a nearly sold-out Richfield Coliseum. The crowd stood at attention and cheered when the lights went dim and the eery lighting played on the curtains while the sound of synthesized thunder loomed overhead.
After lead singer David Gahan's silhouetted performance of "Higher Love," the drapes were pulled down to reveal a 10-foot high podium with nine built-in video screens.

Atop the podium manning synthesizers were Martin Gore, Alan Wilder, and Andrew Fletcher, with David Gahan shouting to the audience and twirling the microphone stand on the main stage.
The real surprise came about halfway through the show when Alan Wilder descended to a set of drums and Martin Gore played guitar. Amazingly they played in synch to videos played on the monitors! The crowd was really riled up when the band came out for the encore in which they played favorites such as "Personal Jesus" and "Enjoy the Silence." Overall I thought that the sound was great, the lighting was excellent and the crowd's enthusiasm was outstanding.
Depeche Mode will be playing the Sports Arena in San Diego on November 16, America West in Phoenix on November 18 and the Forum in Los Angeles on November 20th. If you're in the area I highly recommend that you see this group!
